Bear Mountain and Snow Summit got bought, may get better

The big news in the mountains this past weekend was that Mammoth Resorts, the company that owns Northern California’s Mammoth Mountain ski resort, bought Southern California’s top ski resorts, Bear Mountain and Snow Summit.

If you’re wondering whether this is good news or not, the company is reportedly considering pumping some cash into the resorts to make upgrades, including connecting the resorts with lifts and building more mountain biking trails.

With the California drought hurting ski resorts in the winter, Mammoth Resorts Chief Executive Rusty Gregory told the La Times that he’s hopes to expand summer activities in the Southern California resorts by adding biking and hiking trails and zip line courses to make up for the drop in visitors. He also said hopes to connect the mountains, which are about a mile apart, with new trails.
