Want to check out a hiking trail before you actual hike it? Check it out as in take a virtual tour complete with 360 degree views?
Beginning the past July, Google started equipping hikers with 360 degree cameras, and sending them to hike national park trails in California. The camera, known as the Google Trekker and similar to those Google mounts on cars to generate its street view feature in Google maps, collected footage from 20 trails in 14 state parks in Northern California. The project is a partnership between California State Parks and Google Maps.
The virtual hikes are available on the California State Parks website.
