Parts of Powey Crag, a climbing area between Poway and Ramona, northeast of San Diego, are closed from December 15, 2013, to August 31, 2014, to give nesting raptors some privacy. Here’s a map (below) of the closed area, pictured in red, courtesy of the San Diego Allied Climbers. The close area is near the Ramona and Miller Time Walls.

Through an agreement between the City of Poway and the climber’s group, these crags were re-opened to climbing in 2010 after seven years of closure.

The climbers encourage people to pread the word about the closures and inform friends and fellow outdoor enthusiasts that may visit the area to “help make sure these beautiful birds can breed and fledge successfully this season.”
