Angeles National Forest provides denizens of the greater Los Angeles megalopolis an nearby mountain playground. This national forest offers camping, hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails, ski resorts, off-road trails, lakes and spectacular scenery. As a national forest, the area is managed by the U.S. Forest Service, and protects larges portions of San Gabriel Mountains and Sierra Pelona Mountains. Part of Angeles National Forest was designated to join the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument in 2014, which also includes parts of San Bernardino National Forest.
