Blacks Beach, a popular destination for surfers and nudists, is one of San Diego’s coastal treasures. Dramatic cliffs loom up to 300 feet over the wide, flat beach. This is a terrific place to see shore and ocean life — sea birds, dolphins and seals, among other creatures.
The main surf break is towards the south end of the beach, near the paved access road. The northern half of the beach is where people looking for some naked beach enjoyment hangout — and engage in heated games of volleyball.
Expect to walk down — and back up — long, steep paths or the paved access road, which starts in the neighborhoods off La Jolla Shores Drive. Good luck finding parking in the neighborhoods on a weekend. There is a hiking path, with a dirt parking lot at the top, that begins just south of the Torrey Pines Gliderport. Parking’s a lot easier there.
